A name or location entered in a search tool is transmitted directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive certain technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses cookies, which are small files saved on a visitor's device. No Criminal-Record Data on File
Halifax County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records kept by the Halifax County Sheriff, the North Carolina courts, the SBI Criminal Information and Identification Section, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that appear on this site. A partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information entered into its tool. We do not control those policies, so review the provider's terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Halifax County Sheriff, North Carolina court portals and agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside search tools. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may track activity across websites to select targeted ads. That tracking occurs through their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may nevertheless be available to:
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and site performance

- Government or law-enforcement authorities when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary security measures to protect collected data. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor provided such data, we will delete it.

Rights can vary with the law that applies to you. North Carolina's Public Records Law, Chapter 132 of the General Statutes, governs records held by public agencies, while G.S. 114-19 et seq. governs dissemination of SBI criminal-history information. Those laws do not make this private site's visitor data an official Halifax County record. Subject to applicable law, you may:
